چکیده
PROTEIN AND AMINO ACID REQUIREMENTS IN EARLY LIFE. By L. Emmett Holt, Jr., Paul Gyorgy, Edward L. Pratt, Selma E. Snyderman, and William M. Wallace. New York University Press, 1960. 63 pp. $1. This small volume presents a well-written, critical, and (considering its size) reasonably comprehensive review of the current knowledge of protein nutrition in early childhood. The authors are pediatricians who have distinguished themselves by investigative work in the field. Data from the literature as well as previously unpublished material are evaluated with regard to applicability to clinical problems. A discussion of the epidemiology of protein malnutrition is included. The book is well worth the brief time required to read it, and the extensive bibliography should enable the reader to proceed directly to those aspects of the field in which he has a particular interest.

STh4 investigations of C,Br, on HOPG and MoS,
Monolayers of the organic molecule hexabromo~~ene on HOPG and MoS, have been imaged with scanning tunneling microscopy. The flat lying molecules form an ordered dose-packed array with unit cell parameters corresponding to their van der Waals radii. In both cases the overlayers are incommensurable to the substrate. In the images with submolecular resolution, the molecules appear different on the...
متن کاملAdsorption of biological molecules to a solid support for scanning probe microscopy.
Scanning probe microscopes are now established tools to study the surface structure of biological macromolecules under physiological conditions. Sample preparation methods for this microscopy all have the objective to attach the specimen firmly to a support. Here we analyse the commonly used method of adsorbing biological specimens to freshly cleaved mica. This is facilitated by adjusting the e...
متن کاملDirect submolecular scale imaging of mesoscale molecular order in supported dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine bilayers.
Supported dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) bilayers are widely used membrane systems in biophysical and biochemical studies. Previously, short-range positional and orientational order of lipid headgroups of supported DPPC bilayers was observed at room temperature using low deflection noise frequency modulation atomic force microscopy (FM-AFM). While this ordering was supported by X-ray dif...
متن کاملAn RNA-based transcription activator derived from an inhibitory aptamer
According to the recruitment model of transcriptional activation, an activator helps initiate transcription by bringing the RNA polymerase to a specific location on the DNA through interaction with components of the transcriptional machinery. However, it is difficult to isolate and define the activities of specific activator-target pairs experimentally through rearranging existing protein parts...
متن کاملA convolutional autoencoder approach for mining features in cellular electron cryo-tomograms and weakly supervised coarse segmentation
Cellular electron cryo-tomography enables the 3D visualization of cellular organization in the near-native state and at submolecular resolution. However, the contents of cellular tomograms are often complex, making it difficult to automatically isolate different in situ cellular components. In this paper, we propose a convolutional autoencoder-based unsupervised approach to provide a coarse gro...
